During a phenomenon known as 'Nightmare Week," thousands of people committed mass suicide for an unknown reason. There was nothing that tied them together, nothing in common and the cause was eventually referred to as a Suicide Virus. In actuality, the suicides were caused by an immortal race of aliens who, tired of their existence, arrived on Earth and possessed certain individuals. Suddenly made mortal, the aliens gave the order to the humans they possessed to die. Most complied happily. Those who didn't, evolved into Power Users, or Comrades, as they called themselves.

Yuuta Takizawa was one of those that were possessed by the aliens along with his mother but while he chose to live, his mother chose death. She killed herself as soon as she received her death order while her eight year old son watched.

Hurt and confused by his mother's actions, Yuuta did the first thing that came to his mind. He locked her away in a barrier to seal her away from the world because he wanted to preserve her. From the moment he ignored the order to die, something inside him changed. He was no longer a normal human being but he was evolved.

Unfortunately his father witnessed Yuuta use his powers to Isolate his mother, making her 'disappear.' Afraid of his son's new powers and believing him to be the cause of his wife's death, Yuuta's father disowned him but not before declaring him to be a monster.

Afterwards, Yuuta went to live with his grandparents in Tokyo but he would often spend his time at a nearby shopping complex that he used to visit with his mother. It was there that he met the protagonist of the series, Taisuke.

Yuuta took an immediate liking to Taisuke's friend, Ryou, because she reminded him of his mother. In a bout of youthful shortsightedness, he Isolated the shopping complex to make her stay with him. When Taisuke found out that he was the Comrade that was responsible, Yuuta told him that the only way to free everyone was to kill him. Eventually Taisuke managed to convince Yuuta to nullify the Isolation without hurting anyone. From then on, he began travelling with Taisuke and later a girl named Nami, in search of Taisuke's friends, Hirose and Megumi.

When they reached the destination they were headed for, they met a man named Katsumata. Through his orchestrations, he turned Hirose into a carrier for Akuro’s Heart, a fragment of the heart that belonged to the immortal entity that the alien race was. The moment Hirose took the heart into him, it caused a second outbreak of mass suicides. This time, it was the Comrades themselves who committed suicide. Taisuke and Hirose battled but in the explosive climax, both disappear.

Two years later, Yuuta was still alive. It turned out neither he nor Nami could find it in themselves to follow their peers into death. Due to his promise to Taisuke to protect Nami, Yuuta had persuaded her leave the battlefield as Taisuke and Hirose fought. It was a decision that Yuuta constantly regretted making in the following years.

One day Yuuta and Nami are approached members of the Tezuka family and taken to Taisuke, who survived the battle but lost his memories. Yukie, the Tezuka’s mother, saved him when he was on the brink of death. Together, they helped Taisuke regain his memories because his power was needed to save the world. When he regained them, they all joined forces to stop the American government from awakening Hirose, who had been sleeping under the ocean for the past two years. They failed.

Once awoken, Hirose headed to Tokyo, wreaking havoc in his wake. Taisuke, Nami, Yuuta and the Tezukas tried to stop him along with some non-Comrade allies. After they managed to defeat him, a girl named Mitama, who was the physical manifestation of the alien’s consciousness, came to reclaim the heart piece Hirose possessed but in doing so, she would also absorb the Comrades as well. There was disagreement to her doing so but it was a thing she had to do. As she took the heart into her, everything went white.

Appearance: here

Personality: Yuuta is a naturally quiet and thoughtful boy and this leads him to being very observant, both in regards to other people as well as to situations he finds himself in. Of course that doesn't mean he's meek in any way. He can be quite blunt and will often speak his mind, making sure his opinions are heard even if it's contrary what others may think such as the many times he expresses that a certain plan is ridiculous. He doesn't mind being honest. Although, he usually reserves acting this way for people he is truly comfortable around.

He is incredibly mature for his age. Then again, considering what he's been through, it's not that strange. He knows his own limitations very well and takes care to stay within them, or mention it when others expect him to do more (there is an exception though, which was when he tried to Isolate a nuclear missile sent to destroy Tokyo but that was a last resort effort because if he didn't try, they would all die anyway). He takes his responsibilities seriously and even when it's not necessarily his responsibility, he puts all his effort into fulfilling it. He constantly offers himself to be his friends' protector even when his own life is at risk. This is in part because of the nature of his ability (being able to Isolate people and objects, so in a way he is taking them out of harm's way easily and efficiently) and also because of the fact that he's already lost one very important person in his life so he doesn't want to see any more leave him.

Despite his standoffish attitude towards his friends, he really does care for them. His friends are often motivation for his actions and willingness for self-sacrifice. During many battles, when someone is in danger, Yuuta will Isolate them instead of himself, even when he's injured, leaving himself open to be attacked. Even before they go into battle, Yuuta is always quick to offer his protection. Most of the people he ends up protecting are older than he is.

The two people who see the most of Yuuta's dual personalities is Taisuke Kanou and Aoi Tezuka. He is constantly arguing with them or insulting them or just plain making things difficult all around but through his actions when he thinks people don't notice (they actually do), it's obvious that they are the most important people in his life after his mother.

Taisuke is definitely the person who Yuuta sees as being closest to family as he'll ever get after his mother's death, more so than his remaining biological one. In a sense, Taisuke saved him the day they met. Yuuta was ready to die but Taisuke, with his limitless kindness, reached through his walls and showed him that living was the right path to choose. He truly cares for him like no other and the guilt Yuuta felt when he thought Taisuke had died was immense because he blamed himself for running away and not coming back to help. Yuuta is incredibly strong willed and never shows weakness, but losing Taisuke made him cry. Of course, he hides the fact that he's truly fond of Taisuke by calling him names and making fun of him.

There has been occasions where he will use certain things to control others although this seems to only be reserved for Taisuke, for example, blackmailing him with something stupid he's done in the past, so in a way he can be manipulative too.

Aoi is another one who gets this treatment from Yuuta. At first, it starts as a sort of rivalry over Taisuke (because Aoi claims him to be her brother) but eventually he starts to develop a crush on her. Of course this means an even more terrible attitude towards her but when Aoi's mother died, Yuuta spent days going through the trash disposal at the American base to search for a pair of shoes that her mother gave her, all in an effort to cheer her up. Yuuta is incredibly embarrassed about his feelings towards her though and whenever Taisuke jokingly hints at it, Yuuta always beats him up.

It's not to say that he has a terrible attitude towards all his friends though. He is very friendly towards Nami Kurosaki and the rest of the Tezukas. It's this friendliness though, along with his athletic ability, that makes Yuuta very popular in school, to the point that it's said all the girls in his class have a crush on him (much to the displeasure of the other boys). He does have the occasional bratty attitude but then again he's ten and usually it's his bluntness that causes this.

He also tends to have a special fondness for older, motherly women because they remind him of his mother. Examples are Ryou, whom he meets when he first meets Taisuke and Yukie, the Tezukas' mother.

It’s been noted that a Comrade’s power is a reflection of themselves. For Yuuta, his power was a result of him wanting to preserve his mother after her death, to remove her from the world that caused her to die.

Abilities: Like any other comrade, Yuuta has physical abilities that are above those of a normal human such as being able to run faster, jumping farther, more strength and increased stamina. Because of this, he excels at sports even when he tries to hold back (he was never good at sports before becoming a Comrade). He’s also able to heal a lot quicker than normal people as well as sense when other comrades are nearby.

A supernatural ability he possesses that is unique to him is his Isolation. He can create barriers around people, places or objects and make them seem to ‘disappear.’ In actuality, all he’s doing is isolating whatever’s inside of the barrier from its surroundings, making it exist in its own space. Nothing can come in and nothing can come out. The bx he creates is still there though, and if someone touched it, they can feel it even if they can’t see what’s inside. His power is strong enough to Isolate an entire building and the size and shape of the barriers are determined by Yuuta himself. The inside of the barriers have a limited amount of oxygen so he could, if he wanted, trap someone inside and let them suffocate. An interesting thing to note is that those who are trapped inside a barrier can still see the outside world as it was when they were Isolated (for example when he Isolated the shopping complex, everything outside the barrier stayed exactly the same, even time, but when he released it four hours later, it had become evening without their knowing it).

Third Person: The sidewalk is empty and instead of carrying his soccer ball to the park, Yuuta takes the opportunity to kick it along instead. He gives it a slight nudge with his foot to send it rolling forward a couple feet while he walks at a constant pace after it, hands in his jean pockets, until he catches up and kicks it again. He continues on like this, not minding how mundane and repetitive the action is.

“At least it’s not that cold yet,” he mumbles to himself. The trees that line the street of houses that all look the same have started to change colours but while the autumn air is brisk, it’s not enough to keep him confined indoors. For this, he’s thankful because while he doesn’t particularly like soccer, going to the park to play is something to do and it’s an excuse to be out of the house. This way, he doesn’t have to talk to people unnecessarily. He doesn’t have to pretend to listen when he doesn’t want to because he can still feel bad even when he finds he doesn’t really care.

Out here, there’s no one to bother him so if he has to pretend to like soccer, it’s not that bad of a trade-off. Besides, he’s pretty good at it so there’s nothing to lose.

“‘Yuuta Takizawa, ace of the soccer team’ sounds pretty cool.” He chuckles to himself as he imagines what it’d be like, being surrounded by enthusiastic boys and cheering girls then shakes his head. “Nah, that’s too much trouble.”
